For immediate release: Athens – July 20, 2020
Athens officials are asking Town and Village community members to fill out a survey to help plan the communities’ future. “The threats and opportunities that we face in the village today are significantly different than they were even 10 years ago. The comprehensive planning process will ensure that the Village Board’s decisions relative to these are made in accordance with the wishes of the residents,” said Village Mayor Stephan Bradicich. According to Bradicich, the plan update will be a blueprint to guide economic and physical growth, land use, recreation, infrastructure, and community development for the next 10 years.
The survey is part of a year-long update to the 2007 Town/Village Comprehensive Plan. “The 19-person volunteer steering committee has thought and discussed long and hard about these questions, and now we need the public’s input,” said Town Supervisor Robert F. Butler, Jr.
“In addition to the steering committee work, a joint Town/Village local government meeting was held in March 2020,” according to Village Trustee Dr. Joshua Lipsman, who is leading the comprehensive plan update process. Additional public input opportunities will occur in the fall depending on COVID-19, according to Lipsman.
You can fill out the survey online or on paper:
- ONLINE: You’ll find the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/AthensPlan or on the Village website.
- ON PAPER: Anyone may stop in at the Village Office between 10 am and 2 PM Monday through Friday to get a paper copy, 2 First Street, Athens, NY, or call 518-945-1551.
Officials are inviting and encouraging all residents, property owners, civic groups, business owners, employees, and government workers to fill out the survey. Please complete all surveys by August 15, 2020.
