Hello Neighbors!
Just a quick note to update you all on a few things and then I’ll let you get back to the early summer we’re having.
First, a big thanks to those who came out to the Village Board meeting last night. It was our first in-person meeting since last October, wow! It was terrific to see everyone in real life. For those of you who couldn’t make it out, here are a few items of interest.
Many of you had asked about the ferry service to and from Hudson. We just got confirmation yesterday that it will return beginning this weekend. A couple of us had been working with the owner of the company that operates the ferry to try to keep the service afloat (pun intended!). In the end, the situation across the river was resolved, so we can all enjoy this valuable service again this summer.
Village Yard Sale Day will take place on Saturday, August 28th this year. In the event of a rain-out, we’ll move it to Sunday, August 29th. This year, we’ll be working on a sign up form so that we can let folks know who will be participating. There’ll be more about this in the next Athens Village newsletter. If you’re not already subscribed, you can do so here.
Greene County has begun a broadband and cellular communications project. Their plan is to identify every remaining household and business without access to fiber or coaxial broadband service. With this information they’ll formulate a technical solution and calculate its estimated cost. Here’s where you come in. Residents should fill out the survey available here to assist the County during the first phase of this process.
Lastly, the Village’s event calendar is starting to fill up again (yay!). To submit an event for inclusion on the web calendar, send an email to the Village of Athens Communications Committee. Athens specific community events only please.
Thanks to all and have a great summer!
