On February 22, 2023 the Athens Village Board will hold two public hearings. The first hearing will be on the adopted tax exemption income scale for senior citizens and the disabled. This is conducted annually and the Village generally adopts Greene County’s suggested scale. Official notice below.

The second is on a law establishing a property tax credit for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers. This was recently passed by New York State as well as Greene County and is being considered by the Town of Athens as well as several other local municipalities. Official notice below.

Official Notice 1:
A Public Hearing will be held on February 22, 2023 at 6:30PM at the Athens Firehouse located at 39 Third Street for the purpose of hearing Public Comment on Proposed Local Law #1 which would establish a new schedule of Real Property Tax Exemptions for persons sixty-five (65) years of age or over and persons with disabilities and limited incomes.
All interested parties will be given the opportunity to speak.

A Public Hearing will be held on February 22, 2023 at 6:30 PM, at the Athens Firehouse, located at 39 Third Street in the village for the purpose of hearing public comment on proposed Local Law #2 for the year 2023 providing real property tax exemptions for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers pursuant to section 466-A of the Real Property Tax Law.
